This is Auntie's first try at Fair Isle. The pattern is from the Fall Vogue--it is a sock pattern that Auntie blew up to Hat proportions. The yarn is Lamb Pride's superwash.
Auntie is not sure HOW she feels about fair isle. LOVE the results, so stylish and fun. But the process--so tangly and confusing. Even with yarn in baggies, the tangles still come. Auntie tried: dropping the second color, two handed (one continental, one english), two fingered continental, and still: THE TANGLES. Two handed was an awful lot of extra work, IAHO (In Auntie's Humble opinio).
So, if Auntie has any reader's left, share your best fair isle tips and tricks. PLEASE.
Well, it looks great.
I went online and found a two-handed knitting tutorial video. That helped a lot. Couldn't tell you the name of it now, but I could find it if you wanted me to.
After years of doing fair isle by dropping one color and picking up the other, every now and then stopping to untangle, I found the two-handed method fantastic. Keep one skein on each side of your lap and they never get tangled. The resulting wrong-side looks fantastic. And there is no swearing.
That's not really advice, except maybe to suggest giving the two-handed method another shot.

It looks great. I want to try fair isle but I can envision me throwing a tantrum so I'm delaying it until I have no other projects in the works.

Oh wow! Beautiful work on the fair isles. (Sorry I am behind in commenting. I haven't been doing much blog reading lately.) I haven't attempted fair isles yet so I have nothing to offer as far as advice...but bravo!

Great job on your first Fair Isle. I haven't managed to figure out a way to do colour work without all the tangling and naughty thoughts either.

You might try this technique to see if it feels easier for you which I just came across from the book Knitting Tips and Trade Secrets: Knit all of color A stitches and slip all of color B stitches. Knit the same row again, this time slipping all of color A stitches and knitting all of color B stitches. I think it will also help you keep your two colors untangled! I haven't tried it but if you do, let me know how it works out for you!
