Aaack, I’m it. Must tidy up the place, stuff things into the closets, artfully place fuzzy throws over the bare spots in my meager CSS abilities. Ah, fug it. I’ll just write the post I had planned anyway.
I am a horrible perfectionist. Indeed, my perfectionism often keeps me rooted to one spot, unable to take action for fear of taking the WRONG action. But, I’ve been working lately (and yes, I know, it does seem that I am holding a self-esteem workshop for Get A. Life, party of one, but I am truly convinced that being self-aware is not a bad thing, nor is being one’s own therapist) on truly enjoying who I AM, and not dwelling on who I wish I could be.
In short, I am working on appreciating all the little things that make up who I am. (And I was inspired by a similar post on two different blogs, neither of which I seem to have remembered to bookmark. Horrible copy-cat that I am, and I can’t properly give credit for this cool meme).
So without further adieu, I am . . .
I am a tornado ripping though a discount store, strewing colorful purses in her wake.
I am flavored lip gloss and unbrushed hair.
I am six kinds of body lotion and dry elbows.
I am muddy jeans, and a damp tennis ball stuck in a jacket pocket, discovered at an inopportune moment.
I am Tom Kha soup, and medium rare steak, and I am a cheap date.
I am thick strawberry smoothies and weak tea.
I am an open spice cabinet poured into a successful culinary experiment
I am a kitchen without measuring spoons, a life without a recipe
I am a slow moving vehicle passed up by speed demons, defensively driving so you can go first
I am a poorly parked wide-body jeep with a little rust, and yes, I’ll pull back out and try again
I am stacks of papers and junk mail opened before bills
I am too many ideas and too little time
I am many wants and little pocket
I am cheap shoes and amazing toes
I am notebooks filled with scribbles, and lists on backs of envelopes
I am free pamphlets, floating through cars, purses, and desks with the seductive lure of glossy pictures and important information
I am piles of magazines strewn on the bathroom floor, genetically pre-disposed to the madness of clipping
I am broccoli, asparagus, and I am the sound of glee at celery on sale
I am the clickety-clack of laptop keys into the night
I am second winds and morning fatigue
I am laundry mountain, and mint-condition irons, still in the box
I am an easy sell and a skeptical consumer
I am a collection of cups, decorating the desktop
I am half-burned candles, and uncashed lottery tickets, and I am the memory of fire
I am 60 mgs of MP3s, and exactly 8 music cds
I am notes in the margin, and doodles covering meaningless handouts
I am outlines and I am to-do lists, left to-do
I am a paper date book, crammed with notes, and an always-on laptop
I am a half-charged cellphone, and a long-winded tangent on nothing at all
I am a load of library books, too heavy too carry, and I am the adventure inside each one
I am used lancets, and little blood strips, leaving the trail to the site of a low-blood episode
I am scrapbooks in progress, quilts yet to be done, and paintings already on the walls
I am lines of paint chips on the wall, hope of color yet to come
I am a two dollar skirt and a million-dollar brain
I am a collection of burnt-out book lights, road kill in my late-night trips through amazing book after book
I am house plans and room layouts, and I am always looking
I am a well-loved sock monkey, a strip of black & white photo booth pictures, and a pearl ring
I am long nails and ragged edges
I am unfilled pill counters, and vitamin bottles where towels should be
I am an $8 haircut, and $30 face creams
I am bags waiting for the goodwill, packages to be sent, and good intentions
I am a dining table, covered with books who like to be near food, and I am midnight snacks who like to be near books
I am dog water bowls placed in the nearest spot, and I am a wet kitchen floor
I am unlatched doors, every light on, and I want the whole world to see
I am bamboo shades, a down comforter, flannel sheets, and more bookcases than chairs
I am a wine rack used for towels and jam jars for candles
I am long drawn-out whines, and I am cute pouting
I am well-loved pans, knives, and chopping boards
I am every color of the rainbow, as shown in underwear
I am pink walls of a writing nook, black and white polka-dotted storage containers
I am leopard print house keys, green leather purses, and fake lizard sandals
I am arms wide open, dancing in my living room, and off-key lyrics sung out loud into the sunshine
I am hundreds of blogs, and delightful glimpses into others lives
I am the stories made up of others in airports, cafes, and waiting in line
I am dishes left undone, and life embraced
I am me.
Hi there, Michele sent me!
I'm all for the embracing of who you are and I've found blogging is a great way to realise that (and it's cheaper than therapy). A lot of things on your "I Am" list I was nodding my head in recognition.

Hello, Michele sent me, and I will be back.
I was a closet perfectionist until recently. Nothing got done because I was terrified of not getting it done right, or unwilling to live with it being done wrong. That is not the case so much any more. three kids in three years will do that to you, I guess.
Posted by: InsanePreschoolMom | February 28, 2005 at 06:22 AM
I think the place looks just great the way it is. :-)
Posted by: Daisyhead | February 28, 2005 at 06:47 AM
Great post. Michele didn't send me - as you can probably guess - but so exciting that you're it!

Hello, Michele sent me this time, but I've lurked around here before because you write well about interesting subjects - so well, in fact, that I haven't previously felt the need to comment!

Love this meme, so I'm going to steal it! You can blame Michele, she sent me. But I suspect I'll be back on my own.
Posted by: Megan | February 28, 2005 at 07:07 AM
still reading 'I am'. its a remarkable post.
Reminds me of a not-so-similar-yet-close post at some junk-blog-site, where people(confounded by their ego and id) are trying to prove that they are perfect, by finding imperfections in others.
Who should tell these three idiots(worthless psychos)! that perfection is about "I AM"... and not about "YOU ARE NOT".
Nice meeting you wavybrains. indeed pink, you are.
Posted by: blaze | February 28, 2005 at 08:27 AM
WOW! I'm so thrilled you all stopped by. I'm off to work (court today), but I promise to stop by everyone later to return the lovely visits :P Thanks for making my monday!

Hi Wavy - I visit your site often but Michele also asked me to say hi!
I enjoyed your list and may have to steal that myself.

Michele didn't send me; I come this way every day. Now then, as to your list, it is unbelievable:
"off-key lyrics"? You are the only person in the world who can't sing. Everybody else is opera quality. Poor baby.

What a great site. Love the pink stripes. Your "I Am" poem is inspiring. I started working on my own, but couldn't come up with a lot. Yours is most impressive.

Hey! Michelle sent me! I understand bouts of perfectionism. Sometimes I even battle the same condition myself. If you can successfully reprogram yourself, more power to you. I know how hard it can be.
Oh and if you figure it out, let me know your secret, k?:)
Posted by: Janet | March 01, 2005 at 05:46 AM
What a fantastic list. I am not sure how I would have managed that meme myself so well done you! I love the design of your site and look forward to visiting again soon...
Posted by: Christine | March 01, 2005 at 07:47 AM
Doing a wee bit of surfing this morning... nearly lunchtime and found your site. Enjoyed my visit immensely.
If I had to choose... this could be me:
I am too many ideas and too little time

As always Wavy, fabulous post - I will be the first in line waiting for your autograph after your first booking to read excerpts from your novel. You have amazing talent and your words are so eloquent.
