At 28, one of life's remaining vestiges of youth is a profound delight in horrifying one's mother. One of my students gave us a Graco Snug Ride Car Seat that she only used for about six months this year. Since it was FREE, I'm already scheming of ways to pimp it out with a new cover on Ebay. Which, as it turns out, is a really good thing. ETA at Chez Wavybrains: 3:00 p.m. ETA of Cat: 3:07 p.m. And, yeah, I could have shooed him out, but then I would have missed a perfectly good opportunity to make Clanna cringe.
Although, we hope that we're not setting a bad precedent here. Note the new upholstery for my bench. We acquired a new changing table pad and decided that a good way to keep the cats off the table was to give them this one as a bed. (Go ahead and laugh at our naiveté. ) But, while Beta may have a constant coating of cat hair, we're pretty sure the cats won't actually try to sleep ON Beta. That's what we keep assuring Clanna of, anyway. And we're right, right???
I wouldn't bet on it. Cats are notorious for curling up on a baby's face. Because 1) they smell like milk and two their breath is warm and they don't shoo the cat away. So I would start now with closing the babies room door and keeping the cats out.

No, my darling, you are absolutely wrong. The cats absolutely WILL try to sleep on Beta, for the reasons mentioned above plus it's where your attention is. You know how when you're reading, they come lay on your book/newspaper/homework? Just like that. Good to try and get them used to not being allowed where Beta sleeps now.

I have to totally disagree with the above commenters. My cats slept in the crib before each of my 3 kids was born. As soon as there was a crying baby in it however, they wouldn't go near it if you offered them cat nip!!! My youngest male however, did, and still does love to curl up around my youngest childs feet while she is sleeping - I never let him in the bassinet (not enough space for a 7 lb baby and a 11 lb cat!!, but was fine with him being in the crib. You will probably just have to watch them to see how they will be. They also all loved the car seat, but rarely tried to get in it while there was a little person in it. He will now, however, fight my daughter for sitting rights to the fuzzy Dora chair that she got for her birthday!!
Good luck,

I guess I'm a horrible mama. I think it would be kind of cute if the cats slept in the crib with the baby.
I'm more worried about him harming them than the other way around... oh dear.

Cats sleeping on babies face are a myth.

And cats would never want to come anywhere close to those pesky human babies

Seamonkey is always coated in cat hair - and usually has some on his mouth at all times - *sigh* whatever.
But on the sleeping thing - I didn't want to take any chances. I put that dome net thing in the crib at first but it sucked - didn't fit right and it was expensive. Then we bought a monitor that has a camera - so we close his door when he's sleeping at night. My cats are snugglers and sleep with me at night so I didn't want to take the chance that they would sleep too close to his face, or that he would reach out and grab them.
